Where are games played and training held?

Home games are at Gilbert Gordon Oval or Racecourse Reserve, beside Buffalo Stadium. Away games are usually against neighbouring towns within a 15 to 30 minute drive. All training is at Gilbert Gordon Oval. For most junior grades, teams are grouped geographically to cut down on travel.

When does the season run?

Over summer, across school terms 4 and 1. Games run from mid October to mid December, then start again in early February, with finals for the competitive grades in early March. Everyone gets a proper holiday break.

What do players need to bring?

Plenty of water, a snack, sunscreen and a hat or cap. Bring a few layers early in the season, because Woodend mornings and evenings can be cold. Once it warms up, long sleeves or sun sleeves help.

How can I help as a parent?

Every team has an appointed coach, usually a parent, and coaching training is provided during the season. If you'd like to coach, talk to the Junior Coordinator. You can also help set up and pack up at training, run drills, or umpire and score on game day. All volunteers need a current Working With Children Check.

Can we use the nets outside training?

Yes, absolutely. Outside team training times, use the nets as often as you like.

Is cricket expensive?

The club works hard on grants and sponsorship to keep costs low. Junior teams share safety and protective gear, or players can buy their own. Uniform details come with registration. If cost is a worry, contact the club, because every interested family should be able to play. Get Active Kids vouchers can also help.
